Spring Events and New Releases

Exciting things are coming with spring!

First – The updated version of my debut novel The Rise of Nazil is complete and available on Amazon! If you haven’t journeyed to the fantastical lands of Faélondul, now is the time. The Rise of Nazil earned a Readers’ Favorite award in 2017 and numerous reader awards. Complex characters, epic battles, fierce Desu Beasts, divine Guardians, and a conflict that reaches beyond the physical that will determine the fate of humans and Nazilian alike. Faélondul Awaits!

Second – My new novel Kurintor Nyusi just released! Like my Nazil series, Kurintor Nyusi has the same multi-layered plot style, diverse & relatable characters, both mental and physical battles, and plot twists you won’t see coming. Add an exceptional female protagonist, flawed gods, a tormented priest, new & old magic, and so much more, that encompasses the fantastical Fifth Kingdom. What’s not included that my Nazil series has? That grimdark edge. If you love epic reads to titillate your every receptor, discover the Fifth Kingdom.

Third – I’ve mentioned some upcoming events this year. Below are just the first few that I’ll be attending. However, if you have the time and are in the area, I recommend coming to JordanCon in April. Even if you don’t want to drop by my booth (but why wouldn’t you want to visit me?), JordanCon is a family friendly event and my favorite of the year. Great People…Great Con.

New Year Reflections

2018

Wonderful New Year wishes to everyone!

I’ve made a post regarding my fantastic convention year in Atlanta, GA. I was blessed to meet some wonderful creatives and a few of my favorite professional actors and authors. Being a panelist with Christopher Paolini and Michael Livingston at DragonCon was a great way to end this busy year. However, meeting Colin Baker (Dr. Who) and J.G. Hertzler (my favorite Klingon, Martok, from DS9) was an extra special treat!

Year End Review

Some unexpected honors also helped to make 2017 a memorable year. My debut novel, The Rise of Nazil, is a Readers’ Favorite award-winner, and my Science Fantasy Duology (Rites of Heirdron and Orbs of Trenihgea) won two gold awards as well. Being recognized for my novels is a humbling and fulfilling experience. It’s difficult to share my work with the world, and I’m overjoyed that readers relish each well-crafted tale and email me expressing their love (or loathing) of the multilayered characters and the worlds in which they live.

2018

Thank you to everyone who purchased, read, and reviewed my novels. With the vast amount of literary works available to you, it’s an honor to have my novels selected and loved.

Enjoy this exciting holiday season and GREAT success in 2018!

2017 Conventions

DragonCon 2017

2017 has been an interesting and busy year! After relocating to Georgia, I wasn’t certain what I’d be doing as far as my novels and conventions. I didn’t know that I was moving to a convention paradise.

Vendor Table CosLos

It’s taken some time to get my bearings, but I’ve enjoyed numerous conventions this year. If I had the energy, I would’ve attended more. However, I’m not as young as I once was, so I’ve narrowed down my list for next year. I’ll probably add one or two as the New Year begins, but I’m not planning on attending more than ten in 2018 (this doesn’t include signing events).

My first and favorite event next year is JordanCon! If you’ve never attended this fantastic convention, you’re missing out. Do yourself a favor and visit their WEBSITE. They still have vendor space available and very reasonable convention passes. 2018 is JordanCon’s tenth anniversary, and I can’t wait to celebrate with each and every one of you.

Mortak - 2

If I haven’t met you at a convention yet, you can check my schedule HERE. I’ll update it in January so you’ll know where I’ll be. I’d love to meet and chat with you. If you’re bringing coffee, I like cream and three Splenda!

Enjoy a few of 2017’s convention memories.

I had a fantastic time at TrekLanta’s annual Star Trek Convention. I not only met some amazing new readers, Trek fans, and cosplayers, I also battled Klingons, attended a Klingon wedding, and met one of my favorites of all time – J. G. Hertzler – Martok of DS9 and many others!

What an epic weekend! Thank you for coming out to meet me and a HUGE thank you to J.G. for being such a sweetheart and chatting it up with me all weekend. He is a remarkable person.

JordanCon 2017

I thoroughly enjoyed my first JordanCon convention. The environment and every aspect of the event was spectacular. I met some amazing creatives, cosplayers, and readers. I hope that they enjoy their visit to the land of Faélondul and meet me again to explore more of my fantastical worlds.

The JordanCon staff was exceptional and the atmosphere was welcoming. I will definitely be there for as long as they continue!

Just a few of the numerous photos I captured at the event. Many more are posted on the JordanCon FB page.

ONYXCON IS,

The largest convention in the Southeast celebrating the impact, contributions, and presence of the African Diaspora in *REALMS OF IMAGINATION through the popular arts.

So what exactly is ONYXCON?

ONXCON is a convention, festival, and celebration.

We promote, showcase, educate, and entertain all fans of the Sequential Arts and related media.  We EDUTAIN!  We feature independent and legendary creators of comics, books, film, and other media with a focus on African Diaspora culture, concepts, interests, and general markets. Ultimately we represent diversity in these Arts and so we are open to representing all POPULAR ARTS  that are CONSCIOUSLY DIVERSE!  Our event is for everyone, and is a progressive and diverse networking event for professionals as well as enthusiasts who appreciate our showcase. Because comic books/comic strips have long stood as the foundation Art form of this type of convention, comics are a major feature. But ONYXCON IS NOT LIMITED TO COMIC BOOKS. Our events highlight other literary genres like speculative fiction, as well as video games, collectable toys and models, films/documentaries, and all other media related to the Popular Arts.

Why?

Similar events that inspired ONYXCON continue to have success. Established festivals like Philadelphia’s East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention (ECBACC) founded by Yumy Odom inspired this event.

The original – The Black Age of Comics Convention founded in 1993 by Artist/Educator Mr. Turtel ONLI of Chicago, IL, was the 1st Black Age convention. Inspired ECBACC and many other conventions making ONLI the “Father of The Black Age of Comics”!  Others that added to the movement include The Motor City Black Age of Comics (Detroit, MI) founded by Andre Batts/Urban Style Comics, The Kids Comicon ( Bronx, NY ) founded by Alex Simmons.  These conventions, The National Black Arts Festival and numerous other ‘comic cons’ were inspirational catalyst for the creation of ONYXCON.

ONYX + CON = ONYXCON

The origin of the word Onyx is defined as meaning ‘ring’. Onyx is also associated with the stone of the same name which features many tones and variations. It is often prized for the variations that are Black. The good energy attributes associated with the stone, the term ‘Black’ as it associates with the culture and vision of the African Diaspora, and the symbolism of a ‘ring’ as a complete circle of networking, learning, and influence are the symbolisms associated with the ONYXCON’s mission. CON means to convene, come together, unify for a purpose. Con is short for Convention.  = ONYXCON
